Barking At The Bachelor: Season 21, Episode 8

Good Morning Bachelor Nation!
And welcome to a very special Hometown Edition of your favorite, fluffy Bachelor recap – Barking At The Bachelor! Taylor and her sidekick Ruby here to bring you the dish on all the down-home drama that happened last night on ABC’s The Bachelor, Season 21! This episode really was interesting, and unlike the dull, lifeless hometown visits we have seen in previous seasons, we really felt like we learned something about the ladies competing for Nick’s teeny-tiny heart. So if you’re ready, lets dive on in!

Back in Bimini…
Before we get to hometowns we fall back into the drama unfolding in Bimini as the ladies stress over the unexpected dismissal of Kristina. The ladies fear for their relationships, wondering what terrifying twist our bachelor will think of next! Luckily, they aren’t left in suspense for long. Nick bursts through the breezy French doors in a cloud of chiffon curtains clutching 4 roses, inviting all four bachelorettes to join him in their hometowns. Raven, Corinne, Rachel, and Vanessa all eagerly accept and we are ready to head back to the states (and I guess Canada) for Hometown Week!

Home Sweet Hoxie…
Our first hometown date brings us to homey Hoxie, Arkansas (a.k.a. the middle of nowhere) where Raven is ready to show Nick the ropes! The date starts and the two take off on a pair of quads into the muddy fields, and things quickly get down and dirty. After a quick make out in the muck, the two climb a grain silo for a quick chat with a view, when they are quickly apprehended by the local authorities… Uh-oh! Just when you think things might get really interesting, we find that the Po’ is actually her Bro! Shame, Nick would have looked so stylish in jailhouse orange…

The rest of the date goes off without a hitch. Nick scores major points with Raven’s parents, and even her Southern daddy has fallen for Nick. When Nick asked Raven’s father for his “blessing” the only question dear old dad has is if Nick was prepared for her to say “no”. He was taken aback, but responded well siting their strong connection and  understanding of each other (which he will do at every other hometown date as well…). Then, as Nick is departing the moment of truth is upon us. Will Raven mutter those three little words Nick surely wants to hear? “See you later” she says as they kiss goodbye… Well, maybe next time sweetheart. Good effort.

Down-home Dallas…
Next we welcome Bachelor Nation to Dallas, Texas, home of our leading lawyer and future Bachelorette, Rachel! Now that we know Rachel is the next Bachelorette, this date is pretty meaningless. However the producers did take this date as an opportunity to openly discuss the difficulties of interracial relationships, which is admirable and extremely relevant to anyone in the US who doesn’t currently live under a rock. The two attend church and a family dinner where he meets the family, and all goes well. Too bad I don’t care about anything that happens between them because I already know it doesn’t work out…

Meeting in Miami…
Miami, Florida, home of white sandy beaches, palm trees and Princess Corinne, who could not be more excited to have Nick all to herself. The two spend their date hitting up every store in one of the most expensive malls in Miami, where Corinne professes her love to Nick and treats him to a $3,000 outfit, just ‘cause! Nick, if you can hear me, listen up. This girl might be slightly psycho, but as we have all come to learn, so are you. Let me recommend that you quit your reality TV career and settle down with Sugar Momma Corinne and Nanny Raquel, it’s probably your best outcome at this point…

Speaking of Raquel, this infamous Nanny totally stole the show! Somehow, meeting her made Corinne seem like so much less of a diva. This patient, sweet lady has managed to care for Corinne and her very intense amily for 17 years, and legitimately adores all of them. Cheers to you, Raquel for restoring my interest in the bottle-blonde Barbie that is Corinne. Maybe she’s not so bad after all.

Oh Canada…
For our final hometown we head North across the border to Montreal, Quebec in beautiful Canada to pay a visit to Vanessa and her family! Vanessa has planned a sweet day for Nick, paying a visit to her students at the special needs school where she works where they made a scrapbook of their memories together with some of her class. This girl is truly the real deal, she absolutely adores her student, speaks three languages and is honestly way out of Nick’s league. Why is she even on this show? Oh right, she’s also an aspiring actress… See her IMBD page for a list of her very limited credits.

After their day at the school, things quickly go south (USA! USA! USA!) when Nick meets Vanessa's very large, Italian family. It becomes very obvious very quickly that these people are not about to accept Nick or his “journey to find love”. These people want him to quick screwing around and commit! Have they not seen the show? Everybody know that he can’t just do that, we need drama, we need heartbreak, we need girl fights! Things don’t go any better when the couple moves on to meet Vanessa’s Father and his wife, who calls Nick out for asking every dad for their blessing during hometowns. Nick doesn’t answer this question well, and after some prodding Vanessa’s Pop finally gives a half-assed blessing so we can all end the uncomfortable evening and get Nick back on American soil.

I want to be a part of it…
We close this episode on a few shots of Nick as he settles into a luxury suite in New York City, as he prepares for his next Rose Ceremony. After an insightful montage of scenic shots and thoughtful expressions, we hear a knock at the door. Who could it be? Is it Vanessa wanting to apologize for her disaster of a hometown? Is it Raven finally ready to profess her love? No… It is so much better.

Welcome back Andi Dorfman, we are so very happy to see you.
